Toward a Global Citizen of      
       "Peace" and "Interdependence"

    In order to raise better-educated global citizens of 'peace' and 'interdependence' who will play a major role in the 21st century,it is important to consider the development of humanity in regard to children and students,whom our future relies. The Founder of Soka school system, Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, has proposed the idea that "the best key to the prosperity of humankind is having awareness and contributing  to the ebb and flow of underlying nature." (from "Environmental Problems Faced by All the Human Race." Nov., 1978)
    As a way to make the proposal a reality, in anticipation of the 20th anniversary of founding of Soka school system, we inaugurated Preparatory Committee for Institute of Natural Science and Education in Soka school system in August, 1987. Later, fields from 6 areas nationwide--Bekkai, Kirigamine, Hakone, Aji, Kirishima, and Yaeyama--were chosen to hold  national summer seminars for children and students.
    In April, 1999, the Institute of Natural Science and Education in Soka school system was established within the Institute for the Study of Soka Education.The Institute primarily promotes natural environmental education parallel to the ideals of Soka Education. The activities include academic research on animals and plants, natural conservation of endangered species, and learning about nature.
