Student wins National Tax Agency Commissioner’s Award for “High School Student Essay on Taxation”

Ms. Naomi Tokunaka, a third year student at Kansai Soka Senior High School, won the “National Tax Agency Commissioner’s Award” (highest award) in the 2011 “High School Student Essay on Taxation” competition. This esteemed award was only given to twelve of the 175,442 student entries submitted nationwide. On November 25, District Director Mr. Koji Tsuji and Deputy District Director Mr. Shigeru Takada of the Hirakata Tax Office came to the school to celebrate Ms. Tokunaka’s achievement. Commonly known as the “Taxation Essay”, since 1962 this competition has accepted compositions in which students describe their views on taxation based on their own personal experience and what they have learned at school. District Director Tsuji presented Ms. Tokunaka with a certificate of merit and trophy. The Leonard choir, of which Ms. Tokunaka is a member, made the ceremony very inspirational with their performance of “Kono Michi (This Way)”, one of the school favorites.
