Parents Day during International Time

International Time held its Parents Day sessions on November 21 (senior students) and 28 (junior students).
Mr. Ian, a native English speaker from Canada, visits the kindergarten to conduct International Time every month. The children have fun learning English by singing and playing games. We began holding the Parents Day sessions two years ago to provide parents with an opportunity to see what the kids do during class.
The class is normally held in the childcare room, but to accommodate the larger number of people coming for Parents Day it was moved to the more spacious Prince and Princess Hall. Everyone had a great time speaking English as they did different types of aerobic exercises. One mother stated how pleased she was to see firsthand what her child does in class. Another parent remarked they were surprised to hear the senior students pronouncing words correctly. We deeply appreciate all the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to come observe the class.
Sapporo Soka Kindergarten conducts a number of different activities, such as International Time, as part of its curriculum for promoting international understanding. We also hold exchange meetings with JICA members that stay in Sapporo. In addition, senior students practice using English as they take turns doing various chores during daily childcare time, as well as for the weather check in the morning meeting. In January next year Sapporo Soka Kindergarten will host an art exhibition to promote international exchange with its sister schools: the Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia Soka Kindergartens, the Brazil Soka Schools, and the Korea Soka Happiness Kindergarten. We will continue introducing various activities to help nurture global citizens of the future.
