Greeting the new year with fresh resolve School-wide kakizome event

The kakizome event held at Tokyo Soka Elementary School reflected the fresh hope and resolve of the school’s students for the new year. First and second year students sat in their classrooms and used a pen to write phrases about the new year, while third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students gathered in the Ikeda Gymnasium. There they used a brush to write their own works of calligraphy, following along with the examples given. Third year students wrote the phrase "生きる力" (the strength to live), fourth year students "美しい空" (the beautiful sky), fifth year students "新春の光" (New Year's light), and sixth year students "伝統を守る" (honor tradition).
When the students gathered in the gymnasium, they first sat in front of a clean sheet of paper. Sitting perfectly upright, they listened attentively as the teacher showed them how to write each character. After they calmed themselves, the intent students set about to blazing brilliant trails in their own calligraphy works.
The "Kakizome Event" was a perfect way to kick off the new year. The calligraphy works the students created will be put on display in all the classrooms.
