School hosts IPS founder and President Emeritus Roberto Savio and other representatives of this renowned communication institution


The Tokyo Soka Junior and Senior High Schools hosted three guests from Inter Press Service (IPS), the renowned international communication institution. The guests that came to the school were Mr. Roberto Savio, the founder of the agency and currently acting IPS President Emeritus and Chairman of the IPS Board of Trustees, Mr. Ramesh Jaura, a member of the Board of Directors of the IPS International Association and Director of IPS-Inter Press Service Europa and Mr. Katsuhiro Asagiri, President of IPS Japan. The guests were first given a tour of the school and shown places like the Keisetsu Library and other areas. After the tour they were treated to a welcome reception in the Glory Hall, which was organized by student representatives from the junior and senior high schools. During the reception, an ensemble consisting of members from the brass band club gave a performance that provided the guests with a warm welcome. Following the performance, President Emeritus Savio answered questions from students, at which time he delivered the following statement to express his high hopes for the growth and successes students will experience as global citizens: “Soka Gakuen has a value-based vision of society, people and the relationship between them. As Soka students, this style of education places you in a very advantageous position. It is important that you make great efforts to become active and dynamic citizens. A project exists for each and every one. The creation of new society is dependent upon your efforts. I would like to encourage you to channel your creativity and use it to change society and create a new world”.
