Overseas language training at the SUA

From March 27 to April 2, 10 students from the second- and third-year student groups, as of the last school year and as selected by lot, participated in language training at the Soka University of America (SUA). The attendees also included 10 students from Kansai Soka Gakuen and eight students from Brazilian Soka schools. A total of 28 Soka students communicated with each other in English and deepened their friendship during the course of four days.

The participants were surprised at the vastness and diversity of the U.S. and were impressed by the enhancement of the facilities and course contents of the SUA. The students, who were very nervous at first and could not even greet each other, became to behave quite actively. They were also inspired by the lively attitudes of the SUA students that had graduated from Soka Gakuen.

One of the participants commented, “I’d been worried about whether I could communicate in English, but everyone was very kind and I enjoyed speaking English. In the future, I would like to enter the SUA, meet up with friends from the Brazilian Soka schools again, and make a lot of friends from overseas.” Another student stated, “I learned a lot from the meeting with President Habuki. There are a lot of nice students at the SUA, so I think about how wonderful it will be for me to enter the SUA in the future.”
